Movie Review – Nenu Naa Rakshasi (Telugu)

Whenever Puri Jagannath tries a different story, audience will have a different experience of movie watching. Itlu Sravani Subramanyam and Neninthe are examples for that. This time he is back with an unconventional story about “People committing suicides” by making an honest approach.NNR

Story:

Abhimanyu(Rana) is a professional killer who falls in love with Meenakshi(Ileana), a coffee shop girl but can not express the same to her.

An Inspector(Subbaraju) is given the charge of a case in which a person will be shooting the videos of people making suicides and uploading the same in YouTube under the name “ItsMyLifeBoss”.

Rathna(Abhimanyu Singh) is a gangster who wants to take revenge on the person who killed his father and brother.

How the stories of these three people are connected to each other and what happens once these characters are connected forms the story.

Performance:

Ileana is takes away all the credit with her honest performance for the first time. She played a complete deglamorised role and perfectly fits the bill. The complete story revolves around her and we can say she is the hero of the movie without any doubt. After watching movies like these, I am forced to think that Heroines also do some good roles provided director creates those in the movies. After the controversy over her role in Shakti campaign, hope she tries to regain her glory with this movie.

Rana has to appreciated for choosing unconventional roles over his peers. If he continues in the same way, we can see some good films. He gave a good performance in his second telugu movie. Needs to improve in fight sequences and thanks to his height we can’t expect him to perform some good dance numbers.

Subbaraju is perfect as a cop. He is extremely good in emotional scenes, especially the scene with Nagineedu in Police station. He got a good footage in this movie and seen in a positive role. Abhimanyu Singh impresses again in negative role after Raktha Charitra. Ali and Mumaith Khan have a separate comedy track and it appears to be forced. Others have small roles and everyone did their best in those roles.

Technical Departments:

Screenplay is simply superb and the way director connects all the characters is good. Next appreciation should go to Dialogues department. They have written some really good dialogues which have a depth in the meaning like “Nuvvu naakosam vunnavani nakkuda teliyali kada”, “May be who know, Earth is also like hell for another planet” are just samples. I really liked them a lot. Songs are just average apart from “Padithinammo” but BG Score is great. No hiccups in editing and cinematography.

Direction is good apart from the Ali comedy track. Jagan has a special inclination towards Ali which is known from his earlier films and it rewarded him with lot of accolades. But in this movie it acts as negative.

Analysis:

Movie takes off with a scene where we come to know the main concept of the movie. The complete first half looks breezy and once interval bang comes, you tend to think whether you are watching a Telugu movie or English movie. Title is justified with the interval scene.

Second half drags a little bit and completely revolves around Ileana’s suicide attempt. Till the Climax, movie looks good and I got confused with the climax. I did not get the point what director wants to convey with that climax. He might have felt the pressure and ended the movie like a perfect Telugu movie climax. The best part of the movie is you will see only characters on the screen, not Ileana or Rana.

People may not like this movie due to absence of regular commercial elements. Sometimes, I feel bad when movie like this did not do well at Box Office. We need to encourage good stories like these to see few more of this type in future.

Positives:

Storyline, Lead characters performance, Background score, Dialogues

Negatives:

Ali comedy, Climax, Dragging second half

Final Rating: 3.75 out of 5  and a must watch for the people who want to see a different Telugu movie.
