An experience at Mid Night in Mumbai –Part 1

 

What a way to come back to blogging!!! We had a super experience tonight at 12 in Mumbai. Generally me and my friend (Amit) roam on bike at mid night in Mumbai streets to feed our stomachs. Today was an exception.

Tomorrow we have an exam and we got bored of not reading any thing. So thought lets go on a round and ear or drink something and come back. Accidentally, two more roomies of us also got interested in this and came along with us. Fun part is there is only one bike and four people to travel. Time is Mid night 12’0 clock. First, we thought we will go in Local train or auto. But my friend (Amit) very daringly told four of us will go on a single bike and he assured us that nothing will happen. We resisted first but seeing the confidence of Amit, we went ahead and started on the bike. (Note: The bike model is 2005 Bajaj Wind )

We decided to drink Rs. 10 ka Lassi from local dairy shop. So there started our journey towards Lassi. Half way down the lane, two police officers on Bajaj Avenger saw us and stopped us. We got down from bike and Amit, the driver and owner of bike started the conversation with them. (Note: Amit had worked as Doctor before becoming my friend and had good relations with police men as he went many times to police stations and courts. Don’t think otherwise, he went to those places as a part of his work).

The two police men behaved very professionally. We were in awe the way they were handling the situation. They were very calm and composed in their dealings. The conversation went something on the below lines:

Police 1: Show me your license                                                                                  Amit: (Looked in purse and took out Pan Card and shown it to them)            Police 2: Woh Pan Card hai. Show the license                                                      Amit: (Again looked in the purse and took out college id card) "Sir, it is in home” Police 1: Bike ka documents dikhao                                                                    Amit: Sir woh bhi ghar me hai                                                                             Police 1: Chal. Station chalte hai. Fine pay karna padega tere ko                     Amit: Sir I am a doctor working in blah blah blah                                             Police 1: Bike chalane ka ek limit hota hai. Pehele aapke pas licence nahi hai. Nahi documents. Upar se char log jarahe hai ek bike me. Tere ko toh chalna hi padega station.

(Rest of us were watching the show with lot of interest. We were thinking what will happen to us if all of us were put in the station and lock up for a day for this offence. We wont be able to write our exam. Exam actually consists of case study and we thought this incident can be written as a case study itself )

Police 1 took Amit on Avenger to station. Police 2 started our Wind and followed them. We three were left on the road thinking what’s going to happen. The conversation between me and my roomie:

Me: Are ye Amit kaisa aadmi hai yaar. Licence hi nahi carry karta hai.             Roomie: Abey uske pas licence hi nahi hai. Toh kaise carry karega                      Me: (Shocked). Then why did he show the Pan card to them?                      Roomie: Woh aise hi kartha hai. Inka Pan card and DL ek jaisa hota hai. Night me police ko confuse karne ke liye woh ye sab karta hai. Uske pas bike ka docs bhi nahi hai.

Me: (Shocked again!!!) We are gone today then. First of all Amit does not have docs and licence. Second of all, we were going quadruples on 2005 model bike. On top of that, we have not studied a single chapter for our tomorrow’s exam. What will happen to us yaar???
